In the latest episode of The Vet Blast Podcast Christopher Pachel, DVM, DACVB, CABC, shares how he worked together with pet parent Tracy Richards to care for her dog Asha, who was born blind, deaf, and epileptic.

Reflecting on the experience, Pachel said:

"We are contributing, we have the ability to impact lives in really powerful ways and often unseen ways. And unless you're working with someone like Tracy, who also has a voice and an ability to express that, they may never be seen those ripple effects that we create as veterinarians or as veterinary behaviorists or any other helping profession."

"We don't always get the feedback that allows us to know truly what we've contributed, and so for me, it's such an incredible reminder to lean into that effort and say I'm doing the best I can with the tools I have available to me in this moment. And that's all I can control, but I can do that. And knowing that I don't have all we always have the tools and sometimes even the tools I have aren't fully accessible, right? But I'm going to continue leaning into the effort as best I can and to continue coming back to that as a touchpoint."

"And so for me, this entire story and having the opportunity to share this journey with Tracy and with Asha is such a reminder to me of not only why I went into this profession in the first place, but why I continue to invest in this profession. It's everything. This is vet med. This is everything that we do."
