Washington-Nearly $2 million in state grants will be distributed to boost emergency animal disease response efforts, according to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ann M. Veneman.
Washington-Nearly $2 million in state grants will be distributedto boost emergency animal disease response efforts, according to U.S. Secretaryof Agriculture Ann M. Veneman.
The grants will benefit 32 states and will be used toward training, equipmentand development of emergency response exercises. In addition to state funding,the Federal Emergency Management Agency and several native American agencieswill receive financial backing to aid in livestock and wildlife surveillance.
The grant program is designed to assist states in adherence to standardsestablished by the National Animal Health Emergency Management System.
