The new diet will help support and nourish veterinary oncology patients
For veterinary oncology patients, malnutrition is an issue that can make it hard to give these pets the quality of life they deserve. To help fight this issue, Hill’s Pet Nutrition has unveiled its Prescription Diet Onc Care, a new diet designed to feed and support pets with cancer.
"Appetite is a critical determinant in a pet parents' perceived quality of life assessment for their pet with cancer," said Chad Johannes, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM, Oncology), Associate Professor, Colorado State University, in an organizational release.1 "Being proactive and maintaining pets with cancer in a positive nutritional plane over the course of their treatment can improve clinical outcomes as well as quality of life."
According to the release,1 the new prescription diet aims to maintain muscle mass through high-quality protein, utilizes ActivBiome+ digestive support for healthy digestion, and contains tasty easy to chew kibble to help pets keep their appetite.
"Preventative health care is helping pets live longer and now we're able to diagnose cancers earlier. With more and more pets receiving cancer diagnosis, it was imperative to use our scientific and nutrition expertise to create new clinical nutrition specifically to help support these heroic pets in their fight," Jolle Kirpensteijn, DVM, PhD, DACVS, DECVS, chief veterinary officer of Hill's Pet Nutrition and member of the WSAVA Oncology Working Group, in the release.
"This is the 75th anniversary of our first Prescription Diet product, and we are proud to introduce Prescription Diet ONC Care as our latest innovation to support pets and their owners during one of the most critical times in their lives," he concluded.1
Hill’s Prescription Diet ONC Care can be purchased at veterinary clinics and pet specialty stores but requires veterinary direction and supervision.
