Hoops—and a little hoopla—are encouraged at Firehouse Animal Hospital in Denver. Dr. Jed Rogers included a basketball hoop in the staff lounge when he furnished his hospital. It gives the team a chance to relax and have a little fun during downtime. The idea stemmed from a team member's work experience during the dot-com boom in an office with pool and ping pong tables, among other things. "The basketball goal just seemed to fit the building," says Dr. Rogers. "Staff members will sometimes break into a game. And we do a lot of school tours so students can learn about veterinary medicine. Inevitably we end up shooting hoops. Most people look at the basketball goal and think it's fun—it really gives them a picture of who we are."
