How Can Veterinarians Better Track Opioid Prescriptions?

People realize that there is no good way to track veterinary patients that are prescribed opioids.

The federal government allocated money to the states to address the opioid epidemic, Lisa Penny, RPh, FSVHP, director of pharmacy at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals, says, and about 15 percent of that money the states can use however they want. Luckily, Penny says most are using these funds to address their Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) websites.

People realize that there is no good way to track veterinary patients that are prescribed opioids, she continues. So building up these systems could help us link pets to their owners, and better keep track of opioid prescriptions.
