Many veterinary practices struggle with how to implement Fear Free and still have an efficient practice, says Janet McConnell, CVT, director of education and professional development at Compassion-First Pet Hospitals.

Everyone has a bottom line, and that can be a challenge to a lot of practices. What McConnell has found by working with Compassion-First, though, is that for practices that have implemented Fear Free, it gave back to them in certain ways.

In terms of the math, it depends on whether you charge a little bit more for services due to the extension of each appointment. The goal is to provide a Fear Free visit, and clients will understand it requires more time. So, while it is a challenge to stay efficient, practices that have made the change are very happy with what they've gotten back from it.
