You can set up pet health insurance payments in two different ways in your veterinary practice. Wendy Hauser, DVM, assistant vice president of veterinary relations for Crum + Forster Pet Insurance Group, talks about the benefits and drawbacks of both.
Some veterinary hospitals have clients pay a percentage — or co-pay — of their bill, while other hospitals choose to collect all the money up front. One cautionary Dr. Hauser has with creating a co-pay system in your practice is that you're cultivating the expectation that partial payments are OK. She says she isn't sure if that's a great expectation to set in your clients. So, think carefully about how you decide to arrange your payments, Dr. Hauser warns.
