How staff can give each other bonuses

Each employee at VetSelect Animal Hospital in Dearborn Heights, Mich., receives two bonus certificates with every paycheck. Employees fill out a certificate when they notice coworkers going above and beyond their regular duties, then ask the office manager to sign off on it. When an employee earns 20 certificates, he or she can redeem them for credits toward pet care or choose a gift certificate to the merchant of his or her choice. The redeemed bonus certificates go into the employee's file for future reference during annual reviews. "This gives employees a meaningful way to congratulate each other for a job well done," says Dr. Cynthia Henry, an associate at the practice.
