When incorporating the human-animal bond into practice, remember the importance of 1) client communication and 2) appropriate animal handling. Veterinarians should engage and educate their clients about their pet's care, and always show empathy. Veterinarians should also use the Fear Free guidelines regarding appropriate restraint and minimizing stress in their patients.
