For any veterinary practice owner, investing in your staff's continuing education is the best money you can spend, Joy Fuhrman, DVM, MBA, director of finance and operations for Shepherd Software, says. She gives an example of a particular veterinary practice that is very unique in terms of its practice culture.
The practice owner hires to personality rather than skill, Dr. Fuhrman says, and is determined that every staff member fits in with the team. This not only builds a great cohesive team culture, she says, but also makes everyone motivated, work hard, step up and back one another up.
When it comes to investing in CE, Dr. Fuhrman says this shows your staff that they are valuable to you while enabling them to do a better job. Investing in your staff, spending money on their CE and paying them well for the work they do is a great way to build loyalty and great practice culture, she continues.
