Serena Nayee, DVM: I would say [intersectionality is] the concept that there's layers of privilege as well as overlap of marginalized experience. So when I think of an intersectional, marginalized experience, for example, there are layers to people's experiences that may identify with more than one marginalized community. So for myself, you know, I'm a queer, Indian American woman in veterinary medicine, so, there are different communities that I identify with, but all aspects of my identity kind of come to intersect and create who I am and likewise that has that sort of concept has created, you know, the need for systemic change in our field today, if we are to address the need for inclusivity, we need to do so in an intersectional way
