K-State's Elmore honored with Iverson Bell Award

Kansas State University Associate Dean Ronnie G. Elmore, DVM, will receive the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) 2013 Iverson Bell Recognition Award March 8 at the AAVMC’s annual conference in Alexandria, Va. He is being honored for promoting ethnic, gender and racial diversity in the veterinary profession.

Elmore was nominated by Ralph Richardson, DVM, dean of the K-State College of Veterinary Medicine. “There has never been a time in the history of this college when the number of historically underrepresented students is as large as what we are currently experiencing. This is due almost exclusively to Dr. Elmore’s faithful and extensive travels to historically black colleges and universities,” Richardson wrote in his nomination.

Elmore has published more than 250 journal and magazine articles, abstracts and book chapters. He created the elective course “Practicing Veterinary Medicine in a Multicultural Society” at Kansas State designed to help students develop an appreciation for diversity.
