MANHATTAN, KAN. — Kansas State University's veterinary program unveiled a six-week intensive beef-production medicine course, funded by a $100,000 gift from Pfizer Animal Health Beef Production Medicine Fund. The funds will be distributed over two years.

Ralph Richardson, dean of KSU's veterinary college, reports, "The mix of veterinary students has changed significantly in the past 20 years and the percentage of students with beef-production experience has declined significantly. At the same time, demand for veterinarians to serve the animal-health and food-safety needs of the beef industry is growing."

The courses will be taught by beef-production experts, including Brad White, Dan Thomson, Mike Apley, Bob Larson and Mike Sanderson, the university says.
