Leading Off: CAPC Road Show: A little Northern exposure

Summer is here when the Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) takes the show on the road in the big RV, bringing high-quality continuing education events to veterinarians, technicians, and client service personnel.

This year's tour will visit cities in the northern region of the United States where parasites, including those causing roundworm infection and Lyme disease, are reigning supreme. The CAPC Road Show will kick off in Omaha, Neb., on July 20 and will make tour stops in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, before concluding with a final event in Indianapolis, Ind., on Aug. 3.

The mission of this year's annual road show is to put the freeze on parasites in the North by delivering continuing education presentations on vectors, vector-borne diseases, internal and external parasites, and year-round parasite control. All presentations are RACE-approved for continuing education credit and will provide attendees with opportunities to win prizes and consult with CAPC's parasitology team about best practices for their clinics.

In addition to hosting free continuing education events, CAPC will offer special "Ask a Vet" events at area attractions along the tour's many stops. This approach allows CAPC to both equip practices with the latest information in parasitology and to encourage pet owners to visit their veterinarians for year-round parasite prevention for their domestic animals.

Of course, the CAPC Road Show wouldn't be complete without a surprise or two. In 2010, CAPC rolled out a new partnership program for participants and granted free registration for all CE attendees who picked up information along the tour. This year, CAPC will continue its partnership drive and plans to offer prizes for participants who visit the RV. CAPC will also debut an iPhone application that will feature information about parasites, CAPC recommendations, and treatment options.
