Baton Rouge, La.-Louisiana State University's School of VeterinaryMedicine (LSU) will reorganize its structure.
The plan was recently accepted by the Louisiana Board of Regents. Thenew structure will consolidate the six discipline-based department intothree. The goal is to provide more flexibility in research and graduateinternational programs and maximize use of school funds. The school saysthe reorganization is necessary to establish a more efficient administrativestructure and to create a structure stimulating and enhancing research activities.
The academic realignment will retain the Department of Veterinary ClinicalSciences, without changes, and combine the five remaining departments. TheDepartment of Veterinary Science will no longer exist within the veterinaryschool, but will remain on the main campus. Officials say that additionalfaculty or staff will not be needed, and administrative and service unitswithin the school will not be affected by this realignment.
Comparative Biomedical Sciences will include the former departments ofveterinary anatomy and cell biology, and veterinary physiology, pharmacologyand toxicology. Pathobiological sciences will include the departments ofepidemiology and community health, veterinary microbiology and parasitology,and veterinary pathology, the university reports.
