JACKSON, MISS. — A newly mandated computerized prescription monitoring system in Mississippi might be funded prescribers if the state Senate has its way.

Senate Bill 2235 would require the state pharmacy board to assess an annual, mandatory $10 Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) fee to anyone licensed to dispense or prescribe controlled substances. The fees would, in effect, fund the operation of the PMP, according to legislation.

The bill was introduced Jan. 5 and referred to the Senate's Public Health and Welfare Committee.
