JEFFERSON CITY, MO. — Missouri lawmakers crafted new legislation that would create a new monitoring system for prescribing and dispensing all Schedule II, III, IV and V controlled substances.
Senate Bill 710, introduced Jan. 26, would apply to all professionals licensed to prescribe and dispense these drugs, including veterinarians. The legislation would prevent any Schedule I or II drugs from being filled six months after the original prescription date or renewed more than five times unless it's done so by the attending doctor. Dispensing of Schedule II drugs would be limited a 30-day supply at a time, while 90-day supplies would be permitted for Schedule III, IV and V drugs.
