Additional funding allocated this year to applicants from historically marginalized groups in canine and wildlife health
Morris Animal Foundation has announced a new request for proposals for Fellowship Training grants created to help scientists in launching successful research careers as the fellowships offer salary support in a quality mentoring environment.
According to an organizational release,1 for this year’s fellowships, additional funding is allotted for applicants from historically marginalized groups in canine and wildlife health through its Donor-Inspired Study program. A Morris Animal Foundation donor for approximately 14 years, Sally R. McIntosh, aims to bolster diversity in the animal health research community through this initiative.
“Our Fellowship Training program provides opportunities for promising scientists to advance their professional development, as well as for the Foundation to actively support the next generation of animal health researchers,” commented Kathy Tietje, PhD, MBA, vice president of scientific operations at Morris Animal Foundation, in the release.
“Funding often can be a barrier to individuals who would otherwise excel in research science. Our hope is that our expanded Fellowship Training grants can help break those barriers down,” she added.1
According to the release, the maximum project duration of a Fellowship Training grant is 24 months, and the total budget cannot surpass $125,000 USD. Applications will be reviewed and rated, “based on impact and scientific rigor,” by a scientific advisory board consisting of subject matter experts.
