With regard to the latest wave of organic parasite preventives, Fetch dvm360 conference speaker Richard Gerhold, DVM, MS, PhD, is skeptical. He says their effectiveness simply can't be backed up by scientific testing. What's more, he cites One Health as a consideration:

"In using those products, you potentially could seed an environment that could lead to not only an animal disease, but also a human health disease," he says.

So, while your clients may find these products attractive, Dr. Gerhold encourages you to direct them to other resources-such as the Companion Animal Parasite Council-that feature science-based recommendations.
