Tallahassee, Fla.

- Florida A&M University broke ground May 28 on a new $1.2 million animal health-care facility to support its new veterinary-technology program that begins this fall.

The new facility will be completed by April 2009, funded in part with grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and the Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service. The building will house an animal science clinical laboratory, research facilities, a technology and conference center, as well as small-ruminant and cattle facilities.

When its new study program begins, Florida A&M says it will be one of only 11 universities in the nation to offer a four-year veterinary-technology degree.
