Portland, Ore. — A new Oregon law requires practice owners, among others, to develop, implement and maintain reasonable safeguards to ensure the security, confidentiality and integrity of sensitive personal information.

Designed to protect consumers from identification theft, the law should be followed by properly storing and disposing of personal data, shredding sensitive documents, locking files and password-protecting computers, says Glenn Kolb, Oregon Veterinary Medical Association executive director.
