MINNEAPOLIS — Dr. Carl Osborne, professor of veterinary clinical sciences at the University of Minnesota (UM) College of Veterinary Medicine, was inducted in the Academy of Distinguished Teachers for excellence in teaching.

Osborne discovered the cause and formulated a treatment for urinary tract diseases in companion animals. His students cite him as an encouraging professor who considers himself a coach on the sidelines.

He has given more than 585 continuing education presentations.

Osborne will receive a continuous salary increase of $3,000 as long as he is a member of the UM faculty. He also will receive a $1,500 award for his department.

Candidates for the award are nominated by students, departments, student organizations and faculty members.

Eight other faculty members received the university's Graduate-Professional Teaching Award (GPTA) for outstanding contributions to post-baccalaureate, graduate and professional education.
