At the VetPartners annual meeting this year, Roger Haston, PhD, from PetSmart Charities, talked about economics and the veterinary industry. Amanda Landis-Hanna, DVM, senior manager of veterinary outreach for PetSmart Charities, talks about the takeaways from Dr. Haston's talk.
Dr. Haston expressed how how the veterinary market is not currently approaching all patients in the United States. There are a number of patients not being seen by any veterinarian, which means it can be economically reasonable and advantageous for a veterinary practice to partner with a low-cost facility in their area.
He expressed that it's very reasonable for a practice to have a well-communicated partnership with a lower-cost clinic in their area that would provide more basic care, such as pain relief or antibiotics.
