Philadelphia - Joan C. Hendricks, VMD, PhD, dean of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine was named one of Philadelphia Business Journal's 2011 "Women of Distinction."
Philadelphia — Joan C. Hendricks, VMD, PhD, the Gilbert S. Kahn Dean of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, was named one of the Philadelphia Business Journal's 2011 "Women of Distinction."
Hendricks was one of 26 women selected from more than 300 nominees. Women were chosen based on their accomplishments, community involvement and professional success.
Hendricks became the 12th dean of Penn's School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006 and the third female dean of a veterinary school in the United States. Hendricks graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with PhD and VMD degrees. She graduated magna cum laude from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in biology/psychology.
In 1997, she was appointed a professor at Penn's veterinary school in the Department of Clinical Studies and a year later was appointed professor in the Department of Medicine at Penn's School of Medicine.
