Cut down on unnecessary sick days by offering team members monthly rewards.
At Hillsdale Animal Hospital in Advance, N.C., full-and part-time employees earn their sick leave through a typical paid-time-off program. But to encourage employees to only take off when it's truly needed, the doctors started the Perfect Attendance program. "Any employee who is present for every scheduled shift for a month receives a $10 Target gift card," Dr. Shannon McCourt, CCRP, says. "It's really helped our staff cut down on unnecessary sick days." Before starting the program, McCourt says that team members frequently called in sick with seemingly no excuse, leaving the two-doctor, small-staffed practice scrambling throughout the day. Now attendance has stabilized to an acceptable level, she says.
