The non-profit organization is collaborating with animal welfare groups to address the Ukraine crisis
Petco Love has provided $1 million in assistance to organizations aiding shelters, rescues, and pets and pet families impacted by the war in Ukraine. The funds will also support future recovery efforts and additional needs.
"It is devastating to see families seeking refuge as they leave areas afflicted by war. The entire Petco family is heartbroken by the suffering and touched by the love Ukrainians have for their pets, often carrying them as they flee their homes and country for safety,” said Susanne Kogut, Petco Love president, in an organizational release.1
“So as a company, we joined together to engage our teams and guests to help save pets and support Ukrainian pet parents affected by this war. It is with love that we commit $1 million in support for immediate relief and long-term recovery," she added.
Before the war, organizations accepting this support from Petco Love (eg, Humane Society International and FOUR PAWS International) had been collaborating with rescues and shelters throughout Ukraine and in bordering European Union (EU) countries. These nongovernmental organizations have addressed the growing needs to maintain pet health and welfare since the military invasion approximately 1 month ago.
Additionally, according to the release, animal shelters and border refuge support centers in adjacent nations need supplies, products, and veterinary care for family pets entering EU countries.1 Future donations will also be necessary as organizations restore themselves from the crisis.
