It took four people to load the 3-year-old dog into Hines’ vehicle. She knew the pudgy pooch would have to lose a considerable amount of weight if he ever wanted to be adopted.

Mark Norman, DVM, owner of Bethany Family Veterinary Clinic in Portland, Ore., examined Butters to make sure a weight-loss regimen was appropriate and then shortly after Hines started Doggie Fat Camp. After four and half months of strict diet and exercise, Butters lost 58 pounds.

After losing the equivalent of another large dog in weight, Hines placed him with a family with the contingency, 'You need to keep him on this diet.'

Butters slimmed down to a trim 84 pounds and now he can rest easy knowing he made it to his goal weight.

When Ozzy's owners dropped him off at Fat Camp he weighed 46 pounds. Their veterinarian says he should weigh 29 pounds at the most.
