Q: Do you have a formula that is commonly used in ProSal? And where does heartworm preventive fit in?
There is only one formula in ProSal, says Mark Opperman, CVPM, owner of VMC Inc. in Evergreen, Colo.
"The only formula in ProSal is the percentage—18 percent to 25 percent, including all cost of employment—that you receive for services you provide and the practice receives income for," Opperman says.
Production is defined as fees generated for services in which the doctor is formally involved in the delivery. The percentage determined between you and your employer is based on benefits you receive from the practice.
"Normally when you enter into ProSal, you should complete a Credit for Production sheet," Opperman says. "This form lists all the different type of income that might occur in the practice and notes whether that income is credited to the doctor or the hospital. For example, heartworm medication sold over the counter and outside of an office visit might not be credited to doctors' production."
