Richmond, Va.-The National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians recently released the 2002 version of the Compendium of Animal Rabies Prevention and Control.
Suzanne R. Jenkins, VMD, MPH, dipl. ACVPM, says that the update for 2002was delayed due to the anthrax scare which consumed much of the time forstate public health veterinarians.
Officials report the compendium is updated every year to reflect changesin rabies control practices.
Rabies tags were again discussed and officials emphasized that rabiestags should identify an animal in such a way that its rabies vaccinationstatus can be ascertained. Proof of rabies vaccination should be based ona written certificate (or some other document).
