In an interview with dvm360®, Meghan E. Herron, DVM, DACVB, explains the concept of multimodal environmental modification (MEMO). MEMO proposes that creating a safe, stimulating environment for cats that meets their instincutal needs can have a postivie effect on behavior and even certain physical pathologies.

Meghan E. Herron, DVM, DACVB: Multimodal environmental modification: This really encompasses the cat as a whole for their physical and mental wellbeing. So, we look at not just providing for their physical, basic needs...It's really look at their whole environment and what we can do to engage cats in these behaviors for which they are highly driven to perform.
