Reducing the risk of gastric-dilatation volvulus
Which dogs are most at-risk and preventive measures you and your veterinary clients can be taking.
The consequences of gastric dilatation-volvulus, or GDV, are so dire that early identification of at-risk dogs so you can take preventive measures is warranted. First, you might like to know which breeds you should be worried about. In these dogs, you might consider a prophylactic gastropexy to prevent the tummy twisting in the first place. We asked veterinary surgeon Dr. Jennifer Wardlaw which breeds she considers candidates for this preventive surgery.
