Rescue dogs focus of AMC/CHF study

New York-The Animal Medical Center (AMC) and the Canine Health Foundation (KHF) have plans to launch a scientific study to evaluate health risks and injuries to search and rescue dogs working at the World Trade Center following the September 11th attacks.

New York-The Animal Medical Center (AMC) and the Canine HealthFoundation (KHF) have plans to launch a scientific study to evaluate healthrisks and injuries to search and rescue dogs working at the World TradeCenter following the September 11th attacks.

The study is intended to evaluate working patrol canines associated withthe WTC disaster relief efforts for acute and chronic injuries, environmental-relatedtoxicities, zoonotic disease (anthrax) and other health risks. This informationis intended to facilitate current and future plans for emergency preparednessand management.

The AMC is a not-for profit veterinary hospital in New York City andis staffed by more than 85 veterinarians, including many board-certifiedspecialists.

The AKC Canine Health Foundation was founded by the American Kennel Clubin 1995. Since then the AKC/CHF has become the largest non-profit funderof exclusively canine health research in the world.
