AAFP and Merck Animal Health team up to award 3 outstanding students
The American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) and Merck Animal Health have announced the return of the Scholarships for Academic Excellence in Feline Healthcare that strives to empower second- and third-year veterinary students dedicated to feline medicine.
According to an association release,1 three students enrolled and in good standing at an AVMA-accredited school of veterinary medicine will be chosen to each be granted a $5,000 scholarship. The awards will be gifted based on academic excellence, exceptional leadership skills, and a heartfelt commitment to feline medicine and wellbeing.
"We are excited to announce our continued partnership with Merck Animal Health for this scholarship program," expressed Heather O'Steen, CAE, AAFP CEO, in the release.1 "Our aim is to foster and develop the next generation of feline veterinary leaders, and this program brings us one step closer to achieving that goal. By supporting aspiring veterinary professionals, we can contribute to a brighter future for feline healthcare."
The deadline for the scholarship application is May 14, 2023, and must include a resume/CV, college transcript, and the name of a faculty member or AAFP Member who can offer a reference. Also, 3 essay questions must be completed that delve into the applicant’s interests in feline veterinary medicine, their long-term career goals in this realm, leadership skills, and experience.
The scholarship winners will be announced in a press release and spotlighted in several AAFP communications, including The Feline Practitioner, the AAFP’s new member-exclusive magazine.
The AAFP provides student-specific resources in its Student Center, including a directory of externships, complimentary access to webinars, the exclusive student-only newsletter AAFP Student Connection, and a free toolkit with the latest feline resources from the AAFP.
