Similarities Between Social Work and Veterinary Medicine

Jen Brandt, PhD, LISW-S, assistant director of veterinary student affairs at Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, explains the connection between social work and veterinary medicine.

Brandt moved from human social work to veterinary medicine after conducting a research project looking at the impact that pets have on human patients. Those without a link to a pet during the study passed away, which left a huge impact on Brandt. She started looking more into the human-animal bond and how much of an effect it had on both the human and the animal.
