ITHACA, N.Y. - 9/5/06 - The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine plans to build a 126,000 square foot Animal Health Diagnostic Center to replace existing facilities. The new center is expected to be completed in 2010.
Funding for the center came from a $50-million grant in new capital funding from the state of New York. An additional $30 million from Cornell University and other sources will supplement additional construction costs, the university reports.
The Animal Health Diagnostic Center is the only full-service, multidisciplinary animal disease diagnostic facility in the state and is a member of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network, university officials say.
The center conducts about 1 million tests on more than 150,000 individual samples received annually. The facility is expected to boost the monitoring and testing effort.
