Running lab tests, educating clients, assisting with surgery—it's all in a day's work for veterinary technicians. But how many clients really know what you do? Now is your chance to tell them during National Veterinary Technician Week, Oct. 11 to 17. Use these tips from the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) to get started:

1. Start planning early. Meet with other team members to decide how you'll build awareness and promote your event in the community.

2. Write a press release and send it to regional radio stations, publications, and community bulletin boards.

3. Follow up by calling the editor of the paper's community calendar or the local radio station.

4. Make your event fun! For example, you could plan an open house or a dog show.
