Medford, Mass. -- The Association for Women Veterinarians Foundation named the dean of Tufts University's veterinary college its 2010 Outstanding Woman Veterinarian of the Year.

-- The Association for Women Veterinarians Foundation has named the dean of Tufts University's veterinary college its 2010 Outstanding Woman Veterinarian of the Year.
Deborah Kochevar, DVM, PhD, has served as dean at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University since 2006. She is also the school's Henry and Lois Foster Professor.
Kochevar has received numerous teaching awards and has served as chair of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education and the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates.
The association also has named its 2010 Distinguished Service Award Recipient: Carin Smith, DVM. Smith has written several books, including FlexVet and The Employer's Guide to Hiring Relief and Part-Time DVMs.
She has been a director for the American Veterinary Medical Law Association, trained as a certified mediator and served as editor of the Association for Women Veterinarians Bulletin.
