Tufts earns reaccreditation from Council on Education

Grafton, Mass. — The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University has earned full reaccreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education (COE).

The reaccreditation process included a 50-page self-evaluation document generated by the school and a site visit in October by a six-member delegation from the COE. That process resulted in the COE awarding Tufts the maximum reaccreditation period allowed—seven years.

"This renewal of our accreditation is a validation of the role that our faculty, staff, policies and facilities play in the education of veterinarians and in moving the veterinary profession forward," says Deborah T. Kochevar, DVM, PhD, dean of the Cummings School.

Since its last accreditation bid and site visit in 2004, Tufts has invested nearly $61 million in infrastructure enhancements and expanded the business and surgical components of its curriculum, the school reports.
