Davis, Calif.
-- Educational institutions in California have been hit hard by the recession, but University of California-Davis (UC-Davis) Chancellor Linda Katehi reports that the university took in a record $622 million in research funds for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2009.
More than $71 million of that money went to the School of Veterinary Medicine.
Another roughly $44 million was distributed by UC-Davis' Office of Research among such animal-related institutions as the Bodega Marine Laboratory and the California National Primate Research Center.
"Despite the difficult budget situation, UC-Davis is on a steep upward curve," Katehi says. The school has doubled its research income in less than a decade, she says.
