UC-Davis earns record stimulus award

Davis, Calif. -- The University of California, Davis (UC-Davis) earned 231 awards from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act totaling more than $100 million, the school reports.

-- The University of California, Davis (UC-Davis) earned 231 awards from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act totaling more than $100 million, the school reports.

And the largest of those 231 grants will go to the California National Primate Research Center at UC-Davis. The $14.2 million award from the National Center for Research Resources will be used to build a 19,124-square-foot building for respiratory disease research at the primate center. It will include offices, laboratory space and animal holding areas.

The grant program will bring together researchers from the schools of veterinary and human medicine at UC-Davis, according to the school.

Across the university, the $100 million in grants, which will help fund stem-cell research and tuberculosis studies.

The monies will also create 237 full-time positions.
