An underwater treadmill is a great tool for physical rehabilitation, David Dycus, DVM, MS, CCRP, DACVS, orthopedic staff surgeon at Veterinary Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Group in Annapolis, Maryland, says.
Several exercises can be done on an underwater treadmill to improve range of motion, Dr. Dycus says. The water level can always be lowered, as well, which helps animals build muscle mass and increase their cardiovascular health and endurance.
