Use pipe cleaners to promote heartworm prevention.
To make clients abundantly aware of the threat of heartworms, Jenny Caldarello, a veterinary assistant at Braelinn Animal Hospital in Peachtree City, Ga., put up heartworms all around the practice. "We made 'heartworms' from large red and black pipe cleaners and attached google eyes with glue," she says. "Then we placed them everywhere imaginable—wrapped around cabinet handles, exam room pictures, window-blind cords, and the sign-in clipboard. They were also used on bulletin boards. This got clients and staff discussing heartworm prevention, which was our goal."
