Veterinarians are lucky in more ways than one job-wise, according to the November issue of Money magazine. Ranked 25 out 50 for America's best jobs, veterinarians enjoy meaningful and intellectually challenging work in a stable and well-compensated career. What's more, according to the magazine, veterinarians show the fourth largest growth prospects, surpassed only by telecommunications network and systems engineers and personal financial advisors.
To compile the top jobs list, Money teamed up with payscale.com, an online provider of employee-compensation data, to scour more than 7,000 jobs that the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects will grow 10 percent or more over the next decade and require at least a bachelor's degree. While the two companies focused primarily on job stability and growth prospects, they also surveyed 35,000 people online about what makes a job great and considered those factors, which included high quality-of-life marks. According to a Quick Vote Results poll on cnnmoney.com, 43 percent of workers ranked satisfying work as the most important quality in job. Thirty-nine percent ranked good pay and benefits while 12 percent put growth opportunities first, followed by 6 percent with flexible hours.
