Students learn how orthotics and prosthetics can be used effectively in canine rehabilitation. Principles of biomechanics, kinematics and dynamics are reviewed, in particular how they guide the design and fitting of specific orthotics and prosthetics. Wet labs provide students with hands-on experience in thoracic-limb and pelvic-limb fiberglass impression techniques. Patient evaluation and treatment options for specific conditions and injuries are discussed. Students have the unique opportunity to tour a veterinary orthotics and prosthetics (V-OP) manufacturing facility nearby.This course is RACE approved by the AAVSB for 20 credit hours.
