At the 2018 VetPartners Annual Meeting, Amanda Landis-Hanna, DVM, senior manager of veterinary outreach for PetSmart Charities, listened to Micheal Dicks, PhD, from the American Veterinary Medical Association, talk about the current veterinary economic model.
Dr. Dicks said while there has been some improvement in the U.S. economy, veterinary medicine has been increasing their prices significantly higher. In many cases, Dr. Dicks said, veterinary practices have inflated the costs of some services higher than what the average economy is able to keep up with. He suggests to delay increasing prices any more and allow inflation to catch up naturally. Then, veterinary practices need to pay closer attention to what is going on with the economy and adjust their prices more accordingly.
