Vetoquinol's Imoxi is used for broad spectrum protection against fleas, heartworm, and intestinal parasites.
A imidacloprid and moxidectin combination product (Imoxi Topical Solution for Cats; Vetoquinol) is on the market for parasite prevention. A monthly formula used for broad-spectrum protection against fleas, heartworm, and intestinal parasites, imidacloprid and moxidectin is also indicated to treat and manage ear mite (Otodectes cynotis) infestations.
Vetoquinol USA launched the same product for dogs in 2021.
“Now, veterinarians can offer their feline patients the same combination of imidacloprid and moxidectin they already trust, but at a cost more owners can afford," said Rebecca Peskin, national marketing manager for Vetoquinol USA, in a company release.
Imidacloprid and moxidectin comes in a ready-to-use solution that is approved for use in cats and kittens aged 9 weeks and older and weighing at least 2 lbs. It is available to pet parents by prescription only. Veterinarians can purchase this topical solution through select distributors or by contacting their Vetoquinol representative.
According to Vetoquinol, this product should not be administered orally for cats and dogs. It should also not be used on sick, debilitated or underweight cats.
Additionally, dogs should be ensured that they cannot lick the product from application sites on themselves or other treated animals for the first 30 minutes after application.
Children should also avoid contact with the application sites for 2 hours after the product is applied.
