While there is so much focus on the symptoms — taxes, big-box stores, Dr. Google, etc. — there isn't enough focus on the actual problem: low business acumen among veterinary professionals.
"Don't look at the symptoms, look at the fundamental problems," said Mike Dicks, PhD, director of veterinary economics for the American Veterinary Medical Association. While there is so much focus on the symptoms — taxes, big-box stores, Dr. Google, etc. — there isn't enough focus on the actual problem: low business acumen among veterinary professionals.
To fix the actual problem, there needs to be a group of veterinary practice owners that work together to understand how their practices should be functioning as businesses, and helping one another operate that way.
