Emotional support animals are one of three categories of assistance animals—service dogs, therapy animals, and emotional support animals. There are three acts that broadly govern these categories, the American Disabilities Act, the Air Carrier Access Act, and the Fair Housing Act, but the American Disabilities Act goes not govern emotional support animals.
