Philippa Pavia, VMD, DACVS-SA: Some surgeons—and again this is very much individual preference—if they go into a knee and the meniscus isn't torn yet they will actually cut a little band which is the attachment of that cartilage pad to the femur... and by cutting it, it allows the meniscus to move a little better.
