Women gaining more jobs than men, study finds
It's been a slow recovery for most American employees, but new signs of hope have emerged.
When it comes to hiring for your veterinary practice, it shouldn’t matter whether candidates are female or male—as long as you find the right fit for your team. New data, however, shows that women are making major strides in the job market as businesses emerge from the recession.
Women gained 66,000 of the 80,000 jobs gained in October and outgained men 136,000 to 126,000 in the months of August and September, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Since August, the unemployment rate for women fell from 8.7 percent to 8.5 percent, while the rate for men increased from 9.4 percent to 9.5 percent.
The job market for women hasn’t completely recovered from the recession, though. Women have regained just 17 percent of the 2.7 million jobs they lost between December 2007 and September 2010. Men, meanwhile, have gained back 30 percent of the 6 million jobs they lost between December 2007 and January 2010.
